The AIMA (All India Management Association) conducts Management Aptitude Test (MAT) for management admissions every year. The MAT exam is the national level entrance exam that is conducted for the eligible students for getting admissions to different PGDM courses in various B-Schools and management colleges across the nation. Each year the MAT exam is conducted four times and the interested students have to apply for the MAT exam through online mode. 

The MAT exam is conducted in 2 modes:

  1. Computer Based Test (Online)

  2. Paper Based Test (Offline)

What is AIMA?

The All-India Management Association (AIMA) is the apex body for management admissions in India. Over 38000 members and close to 6000 corporate /institutional members through 66 Local Management Associations are affiliated to AIMA. The AIMA was formed over 60 years ago and is a non-lobbying, not for profit organisation, working closely with industry, Government, academia and students, to further the cause of the management profession in India.

What is the MAT Exam?

MAT exam is an MCQ based test and is one of the most popular national level PGDM entrance exams in India that is conducted every year for PGDM admissions. The aspiring students can take up the MAT exam four times a year and can join the top management colleges in the country. Nearly more than 600 PGDM colleges across the country are accepting the MAT scores for PGDM admissions. 

The MAT is a national level entrance test that provides admission to the candidates into various management programmes according to the scores secured by the candidates in the exam. The MAT exam is approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Government of India and is accepted by majority of the B-Schools and management institutes. The MAT exam is one of the largest MBA entrance exams and has a higher acceptability rate than any other MBA entrance exams in the country.

Eligibility for MAT Exam

The aspiring students who have completed their degree in any stream with 50% aggregate marks from the recognised university are eligible to apply for MAT exam.  The candidates who are in the final year of bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply to MAT exam. The minimum age criteria required for applying for the MAT exam is 21 years.

Exam Pattern for MAT Exam

The MAT exam consists of 2 modes, the online (Computer Based Test) and offline (Paper Based Test) mode. 

The MAT exam paper will have 200 multiple choice questions (MCQs), that consists of five major sections of:

  • Quantitative Aptitude, 
  • Data Interpretation, 
  • Logical Reasoning, 
  • Language Comprehension
  • General Awareness

The MAT exam is conducted both online and offline mode. The MAT online Internet Based Test (IBT) mode is conducted by AI and Human proctored home-based online exam. While in the MAT offline Paper Based Test (PBT) mode the students should attend in the respective exam centres. 

  • The total time allotted for the exam is two and a half hours or 150 minutes
  • The online mode is conducted via AI and Human Proctored home-based online exam 
  • The offline mode or paper-based test is conducted in the respective exam centres
  • The question paper type of exam will be MCQ and the students are required to choose the correct answer from the 4 alternatives.

Application for MAT Exam

The MAT exam is conducted in 2 modes:

  • Online Mode

The students interested to take online mode will have to apply on the official website. They have to choose online mode in application form. Once they register for online mode the students will get their unique username and password on their registered email id and mobile numbers after the fee payment is done. These details are to be preserved for further reference.

  • Offline Mode

The students interested to take up the MAT offline exam are required to apply online and choose the offline option. The students should fill the online form without any mistakes and keep the filled form for their future reference with them. They are required to pay the fees online and keep the receipt for future reference. 

The students will get the unique user’s name and password after the payment of fees. The students should keep this carefully to download the MAT admit card. The students after completing the application process can download the admit cards from the official website.

In both cases the students are required to take up the MAT at the specified exam centres mentioned in the hall ticket. The online mode students are required to take system-based exams while the offline mode students are required to take the paper-based exam.
